THEA KORISTAJA MUSEUM
“Welcome to our place”, says Thea Koristaja, as she opens the door.
Thea Koristaja is an imaginary person, an artist, and a cleaner and this is her museum. Together with two other imaginary artists, Olive Puuvill and Artist Researcher, she works with Ulvi Haagensen, who is quite real, to explore how art and life can meet, converge and overlap.
We are presented with two different contexts – an exhibition space and a studio. Upstairs is clean and tidy, not dissimilar to a living room or hallway in a home – after all, we want to make a good impression, don’t we? This is where we show things.
The studio is downstairs and much like the kitchen or garage or laundry, maybe this is where the real action takes place, in the everyday, when the visitors aren’t visiting, in the clutter and untidiness of life.
Each day the exhibition was open I went to the gallery and used the studio part of the exhibition as if it were my studio. Each time I made a minimum of one "thing". Here is the link to the visual diary that I kept during that time.
