Ad infinitum 2015, Ronneby Kulturcentrum Konsthall, Sweden
In the exhibition Ad infinitum I explore the idea of routine and focus on “unimportant” tasks and work, whether as unpaid work in the home, or paid work outside the home. I am interested in the notions of responsibility and duty, social norms and limits, and personal freedom. Cleaning and housework is generally an invisible “art” that is only noticed when it hasn’t been done. Why do we do these jobs day after day – for love, money, a sense of duty or because it is expected of us?
The exhibition concluded with a collaborative drawing performance. In the role of a cleaner who wants to be noticed, I drew on the floor of the gallery and invited the public to join in.
